                                                          Student Application for Studio1248

 

     Please copy these questions in an email addressed to studiotwelvefortyeight@gmail.com and then provide your answers in bold type, like the email address. Make sure that only your answers are in bold, not the questions. Either parents, guardians, or students can fill out the application, but the applying student and at least one parent or guardian must both sign the application at the bottom.

8) The learning spaces at Studio1248 are open, so you will constantly be in close contact with other students, often rotating stations and cohorts. Many times you will be in a room with no permanently marked personal spaces. Are you willing to abide with the rotation, the fluid space, and the student interaction?

9) While lunch bags, small purses, and, if necessary for medical or health reasons, pouches are permitted inside Studio1248, no backpacks are permitted. This is to foster proper back posture and also to promote the safety of others in the house. Are you willing to abide by this rule?

10) No shoes worn outdoors are allowed in the house, only socks, slippers, sandals, or flipflops that are to permanently remain inside the house. Shoes worn to the school will be left on the porch. Are you willing to abide by this rule?

11) Sometimes throughout the day, you will be asked to engage in self-directed learning. Are you willing to do your best to learn the techniques and discipline that will best enable you to do this?

12) If you are admitted into Studio1248, you will be around many of your peers in close proximity for up to six years. This means that things like voice control, personal hygiene, politeness, and a persistent attitude of friendship and peace are very important. Are you willing to work hard to make Studio1248 a comfortable place for your peers, and a place conducive to learning?

13) Because of unique learning styles, sometimes another student's learning materials and workload may be different from your own. And sometimes students will be evaluated using different types of assessments, the ones best suited for their learning style. This means that you may be tested one way, and another student another way. Are you willing to abide by this customization?

14) During tea, some students may receive different healthy snacks because of dietary conditions, and tea and snacks will be limited to one serving per student. Are you willing to abide by this rule?

15) A lot of interesting discussions will take place in Studio1248. We'll watch a lot of film, listen to a lot of music, read a lot of books. We will talk about different religions and philosophies. So topics may come up that can sometimes be divisive when approached in the wrong way. However, these topics are core to the human experience and cannot be ignored. Are you willing to learn how to discuss these matters and to remain at peace with others who may not believe the same way as you do?
